Bulb planting is a simple yet powerful way to support
biodiversity while enhancing the beauty of our local environment. By planting
bulbs, you help create vibrant, sustainable green spaces that support a diverse
range of species and contribute to healthier eco systems.
Why Bulb Planting Supports Biodiversity
Bulb planting plays an essential role in promoting biodiversity by:
• Providing food for pollinators: Flowers like snowdrops, crocuses, and bluebells offer early nectar for bees and butterflies.
• Creating habitats: Blooming bulbs provide shelter for birds and other small wildlife.
• Improving green spaces: Planting bulbs in public areas contributes to healthier eco systems and vibrant local landscapes.
Our Community's Bulb Planting Efforts
Holybrook Parish Council has been actively involved in bulb planting initiatives in the last year. With support from local councillors, staff, residents (special thanks to Dorothy Piennar), and groups like Kennet Valley Community Association and Friends of Linear Park, we were able to plant bulbs in strategic locations throughout the Parish including:
• The banks at the Holymead, on the grass at the end of Low Lane (in Calcot Place Drive), and at the top of Charrington Road (Langley Hill junction) as well on the driveway borders to the Beansheaf Centre
• The mound behind the Charrington Road/Cow Lane bus stop
• The traffic light triangle at the Fords Farm entrance
• The verge on Underwood Road

We hope to see a stunning display of spring flowers in March and April 2025.
How You Can Get Involved
You can contribute to this ongoing effort by:
· Suggesting locations for bulb planting: If there’s a local patch or verge in need of bulbs, let us know.
· Joining future planting events: Stay tuned for more opportunities to help.
· Planting your own bulbs: Help support local pollinators and wildlife in your own garden or in pots and tubs.
Together, we can create a more biodiverse environment, making a lasting impact on our community and the planet!
